Rockport Library Foundation Board of Directors

Denise Kennedy Munger,  President
Denise was a law partner at Denver’s Holland & Hart, LLP, for 30 years, where she practiced environmental law. She currently serves on the Rockport Select Board and is on the boards of Legacy Rockport and Midcoast Internet Development Corporation.  She is a member of the Rockport Garden Club and the Rockport Boat Club.


Maureen Cole, Vice President Maureen is a newer transplant to the Midcoast area, moving to Maine in 2021 after visiting relatives here for many years. She retired from the library profession in 2020 after a 30-year career in both academic and public libraries. Her most recent position was Director of the Oregon City (Oregon) Public Library, where she oversaw the design and construction of a 14,000 square foot addition and renovation to the original library. She was active in the Oregon Library Association, serving as President in 2004 and on the Board in various capacities for many years. She serves as the Chair of the Programs Sub-Committee.


Mark Van Baalen,  Secretary
Mark has been a full time resident of Rockport since 2015 and a part time resident since 1996. During his long career at Harvard he has had extensive involvement with the University Library System. A geologist, he is also a research associate at the Department of Earth & Planetary Sciences at the University. He has chaired the finance and audit committee of the Mineralogical Society of America since 2010. Mark is a member of the Rockport Library Building Committee and is Past Commodore of the Rockport Boat Club. He also serves on the boards of the Mt. Washington Observatory and the Lowell Observatory, Flagstaff, Arizona.


Ingrid Van Steenberg,  Treasurer
Ingrid is a 37-year resident of Maine. She is a CPA, with her business based in Rockport since 1997. She grew up in Virginia and has a Bachelor’s degree from George Mason University and a Masters in Taxation from Bentley College. She founded the Pope Memorial Humane Society in 1989.


Helen Shaw, Liaison from the Library Committee Helen is a retired bio-medical research project manager. She has lived in Rockport since 2003. Helen is an elected member of the Budget Committee and Library Committee, where she serves as chair.  She has served on the Rockport Charter Commission, the RES Re-development Committee, the Pathways Committee and Cemetery Committee.


Nan Bow, Board Member After spending the prior 25 years in the Chicago area, Nan moved to Rockport with her husband Bill in December 2019. She owned and operated an interior design business, Compliments of the House, for over 20 years before retiring in 2018. She volunteered at the PenBay COVID-19 vaccine clinic and is a member of the Rockport Garden Club.


Nick Ruffin, Board Member Nick and his wife, Holly, bought a house in Rockport in late 2007 after several years of visiting the Midcoast. In 2013, he joined the board of the Coastal Mountains Land Trust. His interest in a new library for Rockport began in 2016, when he viewed the online presentation of the first proposal for a new building. He became a member of the RLF Board in 2020.


The Rockport Library Foundation is a non-profit corporation formed exclusively for the conduct of charitable and educational purposes within the meaning of Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1954 as amended and for the specific purpose to raise funds to support the public purpose of construction of the Town of Rockport Public Library, a public facility operated by the Town of Rockport, Maine, a State of Maine municipal entity/governmental unit which has section 170 ( c ) (1) tax exempt, tax deductible status under the Internal Revenue Code. 

After construction of the Rockport Public Library buildings and grounds, the purpose of the Rockport Library Foundation shall be to raise funds to support the physical facilities, operations, and programs of the Library.
